Frequently Asked Questions
Who provides this internet service?
Your landlord has been kind enough to include this high speed internet connection as an included amenity in your rental package. This makes connecting to the internet easier, quicker, and less expensive as compared to other alternatives. The internet service is provided by Cramer IT Consulting, which is located in Coralville and has been providing high speed internet to residential and business clients for the last five years. Why do I have to register?
The registration system allows us to offer paid speed upgrades to users who desire a faster or more robust connection. Registration also enables us to provide better quality of service to all users of the internet. If you think about it, all ISPs require clients to set up an account (usually by calling and waiting for service to be delivered). Our registration happens online and allows you to get your internet up and running instantly. We are also able to be more responsive and proactive in troubleshooting problems. Why do I have to log in every time I want to get online?
If you have to log in every time you try to get online, you are probably using a laptop or turning off your computer between uses. The system will automatically log you out after about 5 minutes if you either turn off your computer or if you remove your computer from the network. The easiest way to keep your connection going is to use a router. You can use the router to connect directly to the wall port and then connect your computer(s) to the router. You can leave the router powered on all the time and it will keep your connection alive even if you turn off your computer or take it off the network.Where can I get a router?
You can purchase a broadband router at any store that sells computers. You can also purchase a broadband router directly from Cramer IT. Just give us a call (319.358.7525) or send an email over (networksupport@cramerit.com) and someone will help you select the right router for your needs.I can't log in!
Make sure you're entering your username with all lowecase characters. Also, make sure your caps lock key isn't on while you're putting the password in.
If you have paid to upgrade your speed, you must also make sure your account has not expired. To verify this, please click manage my account to view your account status. You may renew your upgrade or downgrade to the free service to re-activate an expired account.
I get an error saying I am already logged in, but I am sure I'm not logged in elsewhere!
This can sometimes occur if your computer was turned off or went into standby mode for a short period of time and the IP address of your device changed when it came back on. When this happens, our servers recognize you as being logged in under the old IP address and will not log you in again under the new one.The solution to this is to disconnect your device (whether it be your computer or a router) from the wall port for 5 minutes. Once it has been disconnected for 5 minutes your old login session will timeout and you should be able to plug back in and get logged on.
I get an error about "CHAP" when trying to log in!
Refresh your browser. If the browser is using an old cached login page, it won't work. Shift-reload will force the browser to pull a new copy of the login page with the updated encryption information.
How do I get my game console online? (PlayStation, Xbox, Wii)
There are two ways to get a console working. The first (and best) is to put it behind a router. Once the router is registered, everything behind it will work fine. However, if you don't have a router, you can configure it to connect via PPPoE. Go into the network configuration settings on the game console and configure it for PPPoE using the username and password you've created during the registration.
My internet is running slow, how can I speed it up?
You can upgrade your speed by visiting the "Manage My Account" section. Here you will be able to upgrade your speed. Once upgraded, make sure to log off and back on again to activate your new speed.
Can I Connect Wirelessly?
Your connection is delivered through an Ethernet port, which has been installed in the wall somewhere in your apartment. If you have a wireless router, you can connect the router to the port on your wall and then connect your wireless device to that router. You will still need to register and authenticate one device behind the router. After that, all devices behind the router will be able to connect to the internet.
Can I Use More Than One Computer?
Yes. If you place your computers behind a router, multiple computers can share your connection.
There is something wrong with my computer, can you fix it?
Yes we can. Cramer IT is a full service computer sales and repair center. We can repair your existing computer or help you select a replacement. If you are a University of Iowa student, you may also be able to take your computer to the ITS Help Desk. You can contact the ITS Help Desk at 319.384.HELP.
